Introducing Zani OS!

Like Zorin/Anduin without the bugs. I have two versions. One based on Debian for older PCs and the other on Fedora for newer ones. Ubuntu be gone! Everything works perfectly including auto-switching between lite/dark modes. Quite zippy too!

All are good for Gnome 49 (except Dektop Logo which is just for fun).

Not really distros, just a collection of extensions and settings. I may have AI make scripts. Sort of user-assembled distros, like IKEA.

BTW, the login sound is already there and rather nice. To hear it go to:

/usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo

and click on service-login.oga

Thanks. I have absolutely no bugs with Debian. Just had to install this to make ArcMenu work:

sudo apt install gir1.2-gmenu-3.0

The only glitch with Fedora is you have to use the flatpak version of Chrome/Chromium or the Light Style extension (needed to make ArcMenu and D to P auto-switch lite/dark modes) will prevent Chrome from switching most of time time. I prefer the native version so I can make website shortcuts which the flatpak version won't do. Flatseal was no help.

Since Chrome is constantly updated, I imagine it will be fixed, eventually.

Protip:

Debian is fussy about passwords during setup and won't allow dictionary words. You can change it later but it increases the number of required characters from 8 to 9 (I think all Debian based distros do this).

Whatever distro you use, just make a password it likes, write it down, then use this to change it to whatever you want:

sudo passwd $(whoami)

You'll have to login to the keyring once with your old password.

I did try the latest Debian approved kernel just for fun, 6.18, and got glitches. My 10+ year old computers don't need it anyway. My new printer, wifi dongles, cam and bluetooth dongles all work.

it looks nice , but Anduin to Go is a must for me, genial thing . I use it every day . With Fedora need full install and simply not fit ...

Zani OS is going strong. Using Debian only since the 7.x kernel works perfectly. Gnome 48 still has X11 available and all extensions work well with it.

Just ask AI what to do after installing Debian 13.5 with Gnome. It will tell you how to enable flatpak and non-free drivers and firmware and the latest kernel.

Start Menu is Modern/Sleek. Find the Start Button icon by searching for "side".

Official Zani icons for Trash, Files and Package Updater (use Main Menu app to change the latter two) and wallpapers (use Gnome Tweaks to select lite/dark so they auto-switch). Plus logo.

Notes:

ArcMenu may need: sudo apt install gir1.2-gmenu-3.0
Run: sudo apt remove gnome-shell-extension-* to get rid of any system extensions that may cause problems.
Run: sudo apt install gnome-themes-extra to make sure you have dark mode for legacy apps.

This is by far the best "distro" I've ever used. No bugs, up to date and fast.
