You can fork this repository (see the screenshot below). Then you can access your own forked Arch-Update repository from your profile (at https://github.com/Kjodleiken/arch-update). From here, you should be able to upload your po file in the Once done, you should be able to open a Pull Request from your own fork to this repository to submit your changes :)

One more question. I use CachyOS. will this be available for CachyOS as well? I just wonder because thus git says arch-update but I'm sure I downloaded the pot for cachy-update |

Yes, it will be available in CachyOS 😉 Cachy-Update is a fork of Arch-Update, just rebranded for CachyOS. So everything that is pushed to Arch-Update is also pulled on the Cachy-Update side by cascade. |

Hi @Kjodleiken, you need to update the main branch of your forked repository to match the state of the upstream one before pushing and submitting your changes. 
From there, you'll be able to update your branch to match the state of the upstream repository. Then you can push and submit your changes again. To avoid such issue in the future, make sure to always sync your fork before pushing and submitting changes. Let me know if you need further help. |

I understand that they aren't meant to be run directly. My main thought was that for people who are not familiar with English, it may be a bit difficult to understand at a glance what they are. Considering that arch-update is installed by default on CachyOS , and also the number of Linux users has been increasing nowadays, I think that translating even small parts is important. Well, I might be being a bit too particular about just a few lines 🫠 but I proposed it with this intention in mind. Of course I think what you say makes sense! |

I guess you're right, I restored the French translation for it in #533. Feel free to rebase your branch and add the Japanese translation for desktop files to your PR :) |

If I may shed some light to the discussion. I'm also involved in translating KDE. As you can see from my Lokalize screenshot below the .desktop files are included in translations in the KDE-project. Maybe the .desktop file should be a .po-file also? |

Yesterday, I installed a fresh Arch Linux together with Arch-Update 3.18.0. After removing orphan packages, I delete them from the cache. Here I got an English message that the packages were removed from the cache.
I thought I missed that in the past and I could translate the missing message now, but I'm unable to find it in the German .po file. How to fix this translation issue? 🤔 |

I'm not good at this, but is it possible to make regex replace of that string? I repeat: I'm not good as these things so it may be Impossible or too much fuzz, but I felt that I had to air the idea. |

That's technically doable but indeed too much fuzz and somewhat hacky, specifically given the fact that the output to replace is not under my control and may therefore be subject to uncontrolled change in the future (eventually breaking such a regex inadvertently). |

Hey! 👋 Another (very small) round of translation needed from ec6f1dc 🤗 It's just about translating time units abbreviations (e.g. in English: "d" for days, "h" for hours, "m" for minutes, New release is still scheduled for the end of the week (but I can cut new minor release later to include new translations if needed).

The idea is just to translate time units abbreviations if needed. As an example, "days" is "jours" in French. So we would usually abbreviate it as "j" instead of "d" (so "1d" becomes "1j" in French basically). So "{days}j" for the translation (instead of "{days}d"). Then in French, "hours" is "heures", "minutes" is the same and "seconds" is "secondes", so no changes neeed here (we abbreviate those the same way). But maybe in German you don't usually abbreviates days as "d", hours as "h", minutes as "m" or seconds as "s"? |

I will keep translation files up to date against new code and I will post a comment in this discussion thread when translations need to be updated accordingly, so anyone can open a pull request for it (see the first comment of this thread as an example).
I won't necessarily hold new releases while waiting for translations to be updated but I'm happy to cut new "point" releases for it afterwards.
Submit translations for new languages:
In case you want to submit a translation for a new language, copy the template
arch-update.potfile to the locale you are translating to.For instance, to create an Italian translation file:
Then fill out your information & translation in the file and open a pull request.
Alternatively, you can use programs like
poeditto write the translation.You can also translate the comment of the two
