Redirect After Social Login With Google

Hi,

I am trying to use the redirect= parameter in the URL when also using social login (Google). With social login it always seems to default to what is set in loginRedirect. Trying to implement a listener (per ChatGPT) only results in "Too Many Redirects" and the documentation is not clear about this at all. Could you please provide some guidance? I'm happy to contribute a fix to the plugin (and/or documentation) if I'm given some direction.

I managed to fix the redirect issue after Google social login in my app by extending a few things in the plugin.

Versions: CakePHP 5 and CakeDC/Users 16

I think there are two main issues here:

First, the plugin that generates the social login buttons builds the URL to /auth/google but completely drops the redirect parameter from the original request. To fix this, I overrode the plugin's UserHelper in my app and tweaked the socialLogin() method so it actually includes that parameter in the link.

Then I noticed that even when the parameter shows up correctly in the initial link, it gets lost during the OAuth handshake with Google. Since the provider just sends you back to the registered redirect_uri, the redirect param disappears. It seems like the plugin doesn't save that value anywhere. My workaround was adding a custom middleware to catch the redirect value when hitting /auth/{provider} and save it to the session before the plugin redirects the user to the external provider.

Finally, I used the CakeDC.Users.afterLogin event (via EventListenerInterface) to grab that session value once the auth process is finished. In that listener, I just convert the path into a CakePHP-compatible redirect array.

I feel like the plugin should probably handle this out of the box, but I couldn't get it to behave without this custom fix. I noticed there’s an older issue #708 that might be related to this.
