Hi MDAnalysis community 👋,
My name is Chinmay, and I’m a first-time GSoC applicant planning to apply for GSoC 2026. I’m very interested in contributing to MDAnalysis and wanted to introduce myself and seek guidance on getting started the right way.
Background & Skills:
Comfortable with Python (intermediate level)
Experience with NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Seaborn
Familiar with OOP concepts
Actively strengthening foundations in scientific computing and data analysis
Why MDAnalysis?
I’m particularly interested in scientific Python libraries and open-source projects that have real research impact. MDAnalysis feels like a great fit because of its strong Python ecosystem, well-structured codebase, and active community.
What I’m looking for:
Suggestions on beginner-friendly issues or labels to start contributing
Any recommended roadmap for first-time contributors
Advice on how past successful GSoC contributors prepared for MDAnalysis
Expectations from a strong GSoC proposal for this org
I’m fully committed to learning, contributing consistently, and engaging with the community long-term. Any pointers, resources, or feedback would be highly appreciated.
Thanks for your time, and I’m excited to get started! 🚀
Chinmay
