I can't play OGG even using the trick

With in-opus.dll, I can play opus files in Winamp 2.76 and Winamp 2.95, as long as I've renamed the file with the .OGG extension to .OPUS.
The help offers this trick to play .OGG files:

NEW: An option was added to load files with .ogg extension. The option is
not enabled by default because the plugin will have to open all the ogg
files to check if they are opus files. Write OGGEXT_HACK=1 in the [IN_OPUS]
section of the winamp.ini file if you want to enable it.
Note1: In Winamp 5.x, there will be conflicts with the tags when you mix
both king of .ogg files, this will lead to tags being not shown for
the second type of file you load in the session. All files will play though.
Note2: This is not an issue on Winamp 2.x.

But it doesn't work for me. I tried adding OGGEXT_HACK=1 to both winamp.ini and in_opus.ini.
I don't quite understand the explanation "it's disabled by default because it would have to verify all .OGG files."
I don't use the Winamp library; I load the files directly from the hard drive.
So does it have to verify something?
Why isn't it working for me?
When I add an .OG file, not even the file title or duration appears. I don't use an ID3 tag.

Normally what happens is that each plugin declares a list of file extensions that it handles.
So when you look at the interface, it is impossible to have two plugins handle the same file extension.

However there is a hack:

For URLs there is no extension, so because of this Winamp asks each plugin if they can play the file, profiding them with the full filename/url. So the hack is to detect opus in .ogg files by sniffing the content (very slow) and say it is a special URL handled by in_opus.

But ther can be still a conflict if you have another plugin using the same trick and declaring he can play a file woyhout being actually able to do so.

You can guess usually which plugin opened the file by looking at the Alt+3 dialog (looks different for each plugin).

Here is a test version that will show a message bow on each .ogg file if he found, saying if he detected it as OPUS or not.

I would advise to use only winamp.ini for the settings or only in_opus.ini

If you do not see any message box when droping .ogg files it means the settings are not read or maybe another plugin is interfering.
