Clear and concise description of the problem
It would improve the user experience to implement this functionality. Currently, middle clicking an widget item in the left sidebar, it does nothing (except for pasting what's in the clipboard to the currently opened object. Which is also bad UX because it's unintuitive, considering that the user has the mouse located OUTSIDE of the object in that situation).
Also, middle clicking on an opened tab does nothing. It does also not paste text in the currently opened object, which is good. But implementing the functionality to close without needing to right click the tab would be absolutely useful.
Suggested solution
I think there shouldn't even be an option in the settings. It should just be default. It's the same behaviour as in a Web Browser.
