Is the Ground Control Points (GCPs) json file necessary? Can I just input the image and get the result?

You don't need GCPs for the optimization (except for the Gantry Translation-based dataset) and it is only used for calculating the error. Make sure to modify the code accordingly if you don't want to use it even for RMSE calculation.
