Guide blocks disappear when viewing angle changes

Hi,

first of all, thanks for the plugin, it's just exactly the thing I was searching for a long time.

I'm running Fabric 1.21.11, Fabric API 0.141.1, Iris shaders. It happens with and without shaders enabled.

Here are some (possibly) related logs:

As the title says, the guide blocks disappear when the viewing angle changes and are visible only at the certain view point.

Hi, thanks for letting me know! I'll try to see if I can reproduce and fix it this weekend.

I don't think the log entries are related in this case. If the mixins/refmap or the resource pack failed, you would not be able to see any guide blocks at all or the GUI would not have the proper text. I'll still have a look at fixing them, though.

+1 to this. Only works when facing nearly exactly south with little vertical deviation from the horizon.

I can't seem to reproduce what's happening to you two. Could you send me these following files? They might somehow trigger it:

• Any file in .minecraft/buildguide that corresponds to a world with this issue
• .minecraft/config/buildguide.cfg
• .minecraft/config/fabric/indigo-renderer.properties
• .minecraft/config/iris.properties
• .minecraft/config/sodium-mixins.properties
• .minecraft/config/sodium-options.json

Also, to be specific, do the guide blocks act normal and suddenly blink out of existence, or do they behave kind of weird and quickly move off screen?

I've also fixed one of the warnings, but it can just be ignored and doesn't need an immediate release by itself.

That looks a bit like what mod updates to new Minecraft versions look like early in development whenever Mojang or a modloader has messed with the rendering system again. I usually just throw some matrix multiplications at it until it looks right on my end, but that's clearly not robust enough... Your files are also effectively identical to mine, so it's not some setting in Sodium or Iris that messes with it.

This kind of bug has popped up from time to time for years without me being able to reproduce it. At this point, I'm worried it might only occur on certain operating systems, graphics cards, drivers, or something like that.

I'm gonna have a look if I can make (better) use of what Minecraft and the modloaders provide. Hopefully, if I can properly capture and use Minecraft's render state at the right moment, guide block rendering should work regardless of what happens (because rendering blocks and entities and stuff clearly works fine).

I've managed to clean up the matrix handling, so the mod now uses Minecraft's functions for matrices and no longer depends on cobbled together matrices that happened to work for me. Could you check if the build inside this zip file fixes the issue on your end: BuildGuide-1.21.11-0.4.8-dev-matrix-fix.zip? (It's a build of commit 142b7da in case you want to know.) Unfortunately, Iris now hates the mod and breaks the rendering pipeline if shaders are on, so you'll have to test it with shaders disabled. I'll make sure to fix that before a release.

Can confirm, this build does fix the issue when shaders are disabled. I don't particularly mind not having shaders while building, so thank you for your diligent effort! Will be distributing to a few of my friends who have had this issue.

Excellent! Thanks for testing! I'll try to find some time soon to see if I can fix the issues with Iris before making a new release. Hopefully, this will finally be the end of the strange camera bugs :)

Yep, can confirm. Seems to be working without shaders and doesn't work with shaders on.

I also have this issue, but I am playing on 1.21.10. I only have this issue when I am playing on a server. when i join my own world, it works just fine

It's very strange that this issue would only occur on servers. I'm in the midst of testing the new release, so I've got a release candidate build ready if you'd like to try it: BuildGuide-1.21.10-0.4.8-rc.zip. (It's a build of commit 2e8f1e7.) It also already includes Iris shader compatibility (BIG shoutout to SkyblockerMod/Skyblocker#1691 as the only resource I could find that fixed this specific incompatibility).
