Offset dependent on another variable

I would like to record electricity consumption for day and night – i.e. between sunrise and sunset as “daytime consumption” and between sunset and sunrise as “night-time consumption”.
How can I set the offset so that the time of day for the above events, which changes daily, is taken into account?

The way I do this is with an automation.
Create a meter that has for two tariffs one for peak and one for off peak.

Then create automation that is triggered for sunrise and sunset. In the actions change the value for the active tariff depending on if it is sunrise or sunset that triggered the automation.

Depending on how your price per kWh is done you may also need to create a sensor whose value for the cost is changed at the same time.
