Hardware Specs for Self Hosted

I've tried a bunch of times to get self hosted working, and performance has been an absolute drag. I've boosted available ram to 4gb, it hasn't changed anything. dev/build/whatever takes forever to either render routes on the fly, or just build (usually fails or I run out of patience).

What are the actual recommended specs to self host this? Seems like it needs a heavy build for what seems like a fairly straight forward concept.
