We've investigated but couldn't replicate the problem in our development environment. The /uploads/copertine/placeholder.jpg path is used as a fallback when a book has no cover image.

Could you please provide more details?

1. Where exactly does the error occur? (e.g., catalog page, book detail page, dashboard, admin panel)
2. What error message do you see? (404 in browser console, broken image icon, etc.)
3. How did you install Pinakes? (fresh install, update from previous version, which version?)

The path public/uploads/copertine/placeholder.jpg does not exist in the repository. Actually placeholder.jpg does not exist at all in the repo although there are these lines in .distignore:

!public/uploads/copertine/
!public/uploads/copertine/placeholder.jpg

In admin panel: Book detail pages without a cover image can't load the placeholder.jpg and fail with 404. Such pages continue to try loading this placeholder with so many requests that I get banned eventually.
It was a fresh install (version 0.4.1). I added a placeholder.jpg to this path myself to prevent this error.

Thank you for reporting this issue. Looking at the commit history, this bug was already fixed in previous releases.

Due to several structural bugs discovered after v0.4.1, we performed a complete refactoring of the application. Starting from version 0.4.5 and onwards, you can update the app directly from within the application itself (Admin → Updates).

We apologize for these issues. We recommend doing a fresh reinstall, as there have been numerous bugfixes and significant refactoring since v0.4.1 that will provide a much better experience.

If you encounter any other issues after reinstalling, please don't hesitate to open a new issue.

I then tried manual-update.php which resulted in redirection errors. I'll starting from scratch.

When doing a fresh install, I had to change Options +FollowSymLinks to Options +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch in public/.htaccess. Otherwise I get this error on my shared hosting:

Ok, I started from scratch with a fresh install. I'm on v0.4.7 now. Unfortunately the issue persists for books without a cover image.

You were absolutely right. I apologize for my previous response - I hadn't properly verified that the file was actually included in the release package.

After investigating further, I can confirm that public/uploads/copertine/placeholder.jpg was indeed missing from the repository. This has now been fixed and the file is included in the main branch.
