Upgrading existing FriendlyWrt on EMMC

How can I update my existing FriendlyWrt on EMMC from 23.XX.XX to FriendlyWRT 24.XX.XX without losing my configuration and configuration data (practically a sys install like in openWrt) ?

It is not recommended to do this. You should back up your configuration.

thanks for the answer, but does this guarantee to get all my definitions like static leases, hostnames, wireguard definitions and smb shares?

Additionally, How can I save my docker files and reinstall them -> do you habe how-to ?

@trigger2k20 I had the same setup and problem, and I have now ended with running friendlyWRT from the SDcard, but mounting my docker files from the EMMC that is not touched when just running from SD card. This works great with a new install and restoring from a backup.

@TermeHansen Thank you very much ! How do incorporate the docker files mount into friendlyWRT ? And saying this, can I make a backup of the settings 23.XX.XX and restore it in your "configuration" on 24.XX.XX ?

I can not say anything about what settings work when upgrading from 23 to 24, but I would expect that most things work, this you can investigate for general openwrt and see if there is something to be aware of.

I can't remember how the vanilla install with docker was, but I at least have docker use /opt/docker as the data mount, which is controlled in /etc/config/dockerd

config globals 'globals'
#       option alt_config_file '/etc/docker/daemon.json'
        option data_root '/opt/docker/'

or the /etc/docker/daemon.json

  "data-root": "/opt/docker/"
}

not sure if this is default. Then it is just a matter of having the partition on the emmc being mounted to that dir also when running from sd-card.
