What problem does your feature proposal solve?

This paper shows that sometimes it is possible to infer from traffic_signals:direction node's attribute the allowed direction of lanes at traffic lights.

What is your proposed solution?

It would be really usefull to have this information returned with the actual data, maybe as a separate edge field.

What alternatives have you considered?

Also, having tools like consolidate_intersections handle this would be really nice

What exactly do you have in mind for this? Do you have some sample code to infer allowed travel directions and how the resulting attribute data would be structured?

I'm not an expert with OSM api but i can work on this implementation if you want.
The main idea is to retrieve the Turn for roads and having it returned in the actual data. For example, if a road as nlanes=2, this would return a new field `turn_directions= ["through", "through;right"].

In the case of traffic light it can be combined with the traffic_signal:direction cited before because you can ensure to match the direction (see picture extract from the previous cited paper).

However, I have noticed that such attribute could be independent with traffic lights, so it could be included for a generic road.

The key at this point would be to provide some sample code demonstrating proof-of-concept functionality. This isn't a feature I'm planning to develop myself, but it may or may not align with the OSMnx project's mission depending on the implementation. We can assess that alignment via sample code demonstrating the proposal.
