Do Skins not work if ONLINE_MODE is False?

Hi! I'm very new to minecraft, I have never even beat the ender dragon so forgive my naiveness. I do run a homelab however and my friends want a s mincraft server to reliably play on and I already own the domain and the hardware todo so.

When ONLINE_MODE is true I cannot connect even locally or via my domain.
when ONLINE_MODE is false I can connect but users' skins do not load, I am left with the default skin instead of my ducky king skin.

any help on this matter would be greatly appretated.
and for record my skin does show and work on public sevrers such as hypixel.

Is there anything I need to check network wiswe for ONLINE_MODE being set to true to work so skins load or is it a sepreate issue althogther?

I can't provide support for general Minecraft questions like skin loading while offline. My guess is that it wouldn't work since you're telling Minecraft to skip their authentication.

What can possibly be discussed here is the online connectivity issues. Please provide your container logs during the time when you've attempted to connect.

okay update now I can't connect to hypixel either this is likely beyond the docker container I'll be back if I find a solution

okay I feel stupid for having trapped myself into the box of it being the container, turns out Prism launcher needed to refresh my account information and it lost the session in the duration of me logging out of hypixel and onto my personal server.

just had to refresh my account session.
