Avoid duplicating playlists

Hey!

Your service is an absolute pleasure to use—it works like a charm! 😊

However, I noticed that it creates multiple playlists for the same song if I try to listen to it multiple times in a row. (This happens a lot to me because I have a few "reference songs" I love starting radio sessions with.)

Wouldn't it be nice to have just one playlist per song? Maybe it could be updated occasionally to keep it fresh.

I'm happy to give this a try if you think it's a great idea! (Though I don't have much free time right now, I could work on it toward the end of January if that works for you.)

Théo, thank you so much for reaching out, for the warm words, and for offering your help – and apologies about the horribly late reply 🙈

I have thought about adding this feature before, and decided against it for two reasons:

• It is a double-edged sword. An auto-updating playlist is great if you're looking for an ever-changing mix of music based on your reference song, but somewhere between an annoyance and a catastrophe if you saved a particular playlist because it was the perfect mix that you'd like to keep as it is forever.
• It is unclear how to housekeep the list of occasionally updated playlists. Spotify gives us no information when a playlist was last viewed or listened to, so we cannot determine which generated playlists are dead and can be forgotten. We'd either have to regularly update a growing number of playlists, or we'd have to stop updating after X days, but have no clear way to alert regular playlist listeners to the fact that the playlist has gone stale (all we could do is add a "stops auto-updating on Jun 1, 2025" hint in the playlist description).

That being said, I'm not totally opposed to adding it as an opt-in setting!

Yeah, it can be tricky to know when to update, and I had no idea Spotify provided so little information about playlists.

As for people wanting to keep the playlist as it is because they like it that way, they can always make a copy ( I do this all the time with my daylist ahah)

Unfortunately, I've resumed classes at university, so I don’t really have time to look into this. But if you don’t want to spend time on it either, I’d totally understand! It’s still perfectly usable as it is.
