Twitter Replies Filtering

I'm a little confused as to how the configuration options regarding Twitter replies work...

There is extractor.twitter.include, which can be set to replies, and then there's also extractor.twitter.replies, which controls whether or not replies get downloaded. This would mean that if we specify -o include=replies -o replies=false, nothing should get downloaded, but that's not the case.

What's going on here? How exactly do these work? Thanks in advance!

Read the descriptions. They are meant to explain what an option does.

include controls which sub-URLs to process when giving gallery-dl a user profile URL as input.

$ gallery-dl -g -o include=replies https://twitter.com/USER
https://x.com/USER/with_replies

replies is one of the options that control how the results extracted from these URLs are handled/filtered. /with-replies returns both regular and reply Tweets.

Ah okay, thanks for the answer! It was very helpful since it doesn't say any of that in the descriptions, which I read.

Is there a "native" way to only download replies other than --filter "reply_id != 0", since -o include=replies doesn't just download replies, as the name erroneously suggests?

No, there isn't. And it's better to use --filter "reply_id" to avoid any potential type errors.
