Where did my bookmarks go?

Describe the bug
I upgraded to the most recent version of Bookmarks , 16.1.3, last night. Now I don't seem to see my collection of bookmarks any more: I get the "No bookmarks here" text instead.

Next to "All bookmarks" in the sidebar, I do see a circled "40," which I take to be the number of bookmarks that are supposed to be there (that number is probably about right). But I no longer see the bookmarks themselves.

All I did was update the app, after adding loads of bookmarks over the several months that I've been happily using it.

The only Bookmarks-related error I see in the logs is this, from the crawler, which I doubt is related:

Thank you for taking the time to open this issue with the bookmarks app. I know it's frustrating when software
causes problems. You have made the right choice to come here and open an issue to make sure your problem gets looked at
and if possible solved.
I'm Marcel and have been maintaining this software the last few years. I currently work for Nextcloud but maintain this app
in my free time, because it is not an official Nextcloud product. My day job at Nextcloud is pretty awesome but sadly leaves me with
less time for side projects like this one than I used to have.
I still try to answer all issues and if possible fix all bugs here, but it sometimes takes a while until I get to it.
Until then, please be patient.
Note also that GitHub is a place where people meet to make software better together. Nobody here is under any obligation
to help you, solve your problems or deliver on any expectations or demands you may have, but if enough people come together we can
collaborate to make this software better. For everyone.
Thus, if you can, you could also look at other issues to see whether you can help other people with your knowledge
and experience. If you have coding experience it would also be awesome if you could step up to dive into the code and
try to fix the odd bug yourself. Everyone will be thankful for extra helping hands!

As I'm looking into this further, just in case this is relevant ... I tried disabling and re-enabling the app from the command line, but at the re-enable step, it complained about a missing "intl" module. Indeed, I did not have php-intl installed. So I installed that, which did allow me to re-enable the app, but my bookmarks are still not showing up.

there was a hiccup with the release this time, unfortunately. I was under the impression to have solved it without any data corruption, but your post seems to hint otherwise :/
I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I will try to help troubleshoot.
Are you an admin of your Nextcloud instance?
Do you have a backup of your database?
Would you be able to run the ./occ maintenance:repair command? That might surface the missing bookmarks again, even if the folder structure may be broken...

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I am an admin. I'm afraid I foolishly do not have a database backup (I thought Nextcloud did this as part of the version upgrade process, but apparently not). I ran occ maintenance:repair, but that didn't help.

If it helps, I didn't have a folder structure -- all of the bookmarks were just at the top level.

I have managed to back up the oc_bookmarks database itself in its current state (using mysqldump ... oc_bookmarks). But I don't have a backup from before the new version of the app.

They are, yes, thanks. I am also fetching the bookmark content, and I have that as well. I did two dumps, one with just the title and URL and one with everything, and they both look plausible to me.

I suppose there's probably a way to reinsert them? But I am nowhere near sufficiently sophisticated about databases to know how.

If I really had to, I could just paste back in the ~ 40 bookmarks manually, but I've been a coder long enough to be allergic to manual work. ;-) Still, if that's the simplest thing, I'll just bite the bullet and do it.

I did it ten times in a row, and still no bookmarks in the UI.

I had the same issue, it has the same cause as #2375 - some migrations that didn't execute while updating the app.

You need to go into the database, from table oc_migrations you need to remove the last three entries for this app:

Disable and re-enable the app and the database migration should run.
