ESRI tiles roadway lines missing pixels

We are using ESRI's street map premium vector tile layer and when viewed at lower zooms the lines are not drawn all the way. For example in the picture below where the red arrows are. If zoomed in further the lines are further distorted. Not clear what is causing this. It is important that these roads look sharper at lower zoom levels for the users needs.

Rendering problems like this usually occur when linestrings do not have enough buffer outside the tile extent. This is something that would have to fixed by Esri in the tile generation process .

Another problem - specific to Esri tile caches - could be that a tile may not exist for a high zoom level when a lower zoom level already provides the full detail for that area. You can check if that's the case by inspecting the network traffic on the network tab of your browser's dev tools, and see if 404 errors are returned for tile requests that are within the source's minzoom-maxzoom range. If so, this is something that can be worked around by generating higher resolution tiles from lower resolution ones - either on the application level or in ol-mapbox-style.

The map viewed at the same location with ESRI Javascript API does not have the issue.

But Leaflet map does

I am new to all this. The task was to replace Raster map with the Vector Tile cache map and now I am running into these random issues. Can you suggest what work arounds I should be looking at in the Openlayers code. There are no 404 errors returned for any of the tile requsts. How do I go about generating higher resolutions tiles from lower resolution tiles? Or the other suggestion you have with the ol-mapbox-style. Not sure what kind of change it will need.
