This is not an app, this is a full time job https://github.com/spantaleev/matrix-docker-ansible-deploy/blob/master/setup.yml I do not ever see us supporting this especially because other people have done the legwork. Also self hosting this looks like a job as well with maintenance. |

I'm looking for self-hosted replacements for Discord, and the strongest contender that I've found is Matrix. Matrix is a backend architecture for text, audio, and video communication.
I use Discord as the primary form of communication with my friends, and some communities. It is a shame that a service I use so often is also one that I feel so unsafe using. Discord is neither private, nor a long-term solution for keeping a large portion of my conversations. I want to replace it, but I have not found a suitable alternative that is easy enough to manage on my home server. When I started getting overwhelmed by the Matrix installation instructions, I immediately thought of the great experiences I've had with LinuxServer images.
I have tried and failed to find a monolithic docker-compose installation that I trust to be durable, but here are the links that I have looked at.
Here is a deployment using Ansible: https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1o6d4qa/matrix_server_suite_allinone_docker_compose/
Here is a reddit thread about the search for a docker-compose solution: https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1o6d4qa/matrix_server_suite_allinone_docker_compose/
Here is an attempt at a monolithic docker-compose: https://github.com/kamyargerami/matrix-docker
Here is a video from Linus Tech Tips that is a good summary of why I'm searching for a solution. https://youtu.be/bzosJNHD8jI
I love the standards that LinuxServer's images adhere to, and would love to see a Matrix image built to the same expectations.
