what do you mean with "root config"

i am seeing this error: "The options.typeAware option is only supported in the root config" - and it is not clear to me if "root config" refers to a oxlint.config.ts file sitting in the monorepo root, or a oxlint.config.ts entrypoint sitting in a package root (which does not seem to work).

The monorepo root one. "Root config" means the config file at the top level of your project (the .oxlintrc.json / oxlint.config.ts in the repo root that oxlint loads as the baseline for the whole run). The oxlint.config.ts you drop into a package root counts as a nested config, which is why it doesn't work for this.

options.typeAware (and options.typeCheck) are root-config-only. Nested configs can only override rules, plugins, and overrides, so the moment you put a top-level options key in one you get exactly the error you're seeing.

So keep options: { typeAware: true } in the root config and let the package configs extend it for rule/plugin tweaks. If what you actually want is per-package type-aware behavior in a monorepo, that's the rough edge tracked in #19932.
