State more detailled what this polyfill does

Does it add the matchMedia API for all browsers (>= IE 6 etc.) or just for browsers that support CSS media queries but not the matchMedia API?

I think the latter is the case, but please confirm / correct it.

This line window.matchMedia || (window.matchMedia = function() { makes me think that yes; it adds support for browsers that do not support matchMedia.

Check this out for browsers that this polyfill might affect.

Nice.

Pretty sure it does work in IE8 and other non-mq browsers for checking media 'type', for what it's worth.
Also works for testing mq support in most any browser, with matchMedia('only all').matches

Ah… yeah good point… it does "work" in IE8, but its totally useless, as far as it goes.
