Time-series database performance #24
Description
Based on early testing and user feedback, we're seeing relatively poor performance when writing to the Postgres database to do time-series data collection. We've done some scalability testing in Fall 2024 and need to re-do that testing with the new Writer and Reader objects to confirm the problem still exists (it likely does). We've also done testing with the TimescaleDB extension on top of Postgres and saw virtually no change in performance. In talking with database experts it seems like we should be able to get better performance than we are currently getting. Further investigation is needed.
