[Feature Request] Generate thumbnails for .m4a audio files #249

@kodebarista

Description

@kodebarista

Issue/Description:
COSMIC Player currently generates thumbnails for video files, but audio files such as .m4a do not display thumbnails. Many .m4a files contain embedded album artwork, which could be extracted and used as thumbnails for better visual identification and consistency in the UI.

Currently the only solution is to install totem or GNOME media player which enables the .m4a thumbnailing.

Version:
1.0.8

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Open a folder containing .m4a media files in COSMIC Files
  • Observe the absence of thumbnails for these files

Expected Behavior:
.m4a audio files should display thumbnails in COSMIC Files by extracting and rendering embedded album artwork, similar to how video thumbnails are generated.

Other Notes:

  • This would improve the browsing experience and visual consistency between audio and video media
  • If embedded artwork is unavailable, a fallback placeholder could be used
