user@host for ssh session functional?

Is the feature as described in the docs actually functional?

All the docs say is that the default is 'undefined' - nothing about what to set it to, etc.

I tried setting it as 'true', which just put 'true' next to the prompt when I reran it. Are we supposed to hard-code the user and host name, and assume it'll never change, or is there something more it's supposed to be doing here? Looking back I see some related bugs that were marked as 'help wanted' then later closed... which leaves me wondering what the actual status is?

Hello, pure maintainer here 👋
Thanks for sharing your experience! I encourage you to create a PR so we can improve the doc.
You need to install pure on the remote machine and configure the prefix there. The dynamic content you describe is the default behaviour that is used when you are on an SSH session and using Fish as your SSH shell. You can try that locally with:

/tmp
❯ ssh (id --name --user)@localhost -t fish

Then you will be connected via an SSH tunnel to your laptop. You can now change the setting:

~ foo@bar-remote
❯ set --universal pure_symbol_ssh_prefix '🐚'

~ 🐚foo@bar-remote
❯

Once you are set on your settings, you can do it on the real remote machine.
