How to use HDMI as an audio output?

Sorry if a dumb question, i used to use RuneAudio back in the day but my rpi2 card was way too slow. I just upgraded to a rpi5 and got my system setup with the latest image from a week ago. I have my wifi setup, nas connection is good, the only thing i cant get working is audio out my HDMI. Am i totally missing something or is this not supported? I have clicked through a lot of menus and tried to search it in this github.

any help would be appreciated

To add a little more info, i am able to go to music player daemon and see that the music is streaming to port 8000 and i can hear that music. Says the audio_output is streaming.

And i know the audio output device, my tv, works

To enable HDMI as audio output go to the "System menu" -> "On-board Devices" and tick the the "Audio" checkbox.

yep, already have that checked and nothing. Says no audio device, its a brand new board. ill flash it with another OS to test the audio, then reflash the raudio, assuming it works after my test.
