Typing in Halloy pegs a CPU core

To reproduce, open Halloy, open htop next to it, then type "testtesttest" or something. On my machine (Halloy commit 5124d2f, Debian trixie, x11) this causes Halloy to consume 100% of one CPU core and causes the fans to spin up loudly.

I'm actually really annoyed by the fans! They make my otherwise peacefully quiet room into something that's very much not.

If you don't mind, could you try performing the same test with the examples/editor example program from the iced repository and see if it produces the same behavior for you?

If the issue also occurs in the iced repo imo an issue should be opened there (and we can keep this one open too to track)
I tried typing on Wayland (sway) and got similar behaviour i believe

Well, I don't use iced, I use Halloy (and it's a pretty basic oversight) but seeing as there's a lot of developer overlap I think you can just transfer it there?

For clarification, iced is the GUI framework that Halloy uses. So what the above is saying is that if the issue happens in an example program that uses iced, then it's not a halloy-specific bug.

Yes, I understand that. But as a user of the application, I'm going to file bugs on the application—it is not my job to chase them down to the exact dependency you're using.

this feels a bit odd to me, since nobody really has a job here. i don't think anyone is paid to write Halloy. my job is to do research in category theory, and TA math classes. but i can file the upstream bug.
