`oil.nvim` in the state of 2026

Hi stevearc, wanted to get your thoughts on this. You made basically one of the best nvim plugins of all time, imo. Unfortunately, in the words of your own bio, you have "very little free time."

I don't think I'm the only member in this community that thinks that a) you and oil.nvim deserve more support and that b) there is no shortage of people willing to help.

I understand that this is your plugin and its well-designed feature set and scope is because of 99% of your thinking.

However, I find it hard to deal with the following reality:

oil.nvim is so popular that it ought to be very, very actively maintained.

I say this is all in support of the best oil.nvim that could exist. I'd like to hear your thoughts on allowing co-maintainers to contribute to oil.nvim or moving this plugin to a separate organization.
