flight <-> data gap

I just was on vacation and noticed that during my flight I did not receive and gps points. I am not quite sure if this is because of the plane which maybe absorbs all gps signals or if my smartphone does turn off gps during flight mode (which I think that it does not make sense but but I have not researched about it). Anyway .....my flight shows as a gps gap which I think is as expected.

I am wondering if others are able to receive gps points during their flights and their flight is get shown as a flight on geopulse.

The feature to create trips instead of data gaps was implemented in 1.12.0
