It was part of the Tokio 0.1 ecosystem and has been superseded by the main tokio crate.

tracing-futures has compatibility structs for tokio 0.1 and depends on tokio@0.1.22 which in turns depends on this.

I think we can drop that crate or at least remove the old stuff like compatibility with tokio@0.1 and futures@0.1.
