Project status?

From the last commit date, and the errors and the not-supported Onion Services V3, is this project dead?
If it is, are there any alternatives?

It's a shame tbh, I would've worked on it myself but I don't have the knowledge :/

I would also work on a V3 release, I'm just not sure where to get started.

Tor has stopped supporting V2 completely, this means that you can't switch back.

V2 onion addresses are fundamentally insecure. If you have a v2 onion, we recommend you migrate now. This is a backward incompatible change: v2 onion services will not be reachable after September 2021.

Since you asked about alternatives: I put together torquests to close the v3 gap. It reaches the Tor network from Python directly, supports v3 onion services, and wraps the whole thing in a requests-style API. https://github.com/SafwanLjd/torquests
