Super Mario RPG: black screen when entering battle (possible regression from 1.51)

Issue: In Super Mario RPG, there is a black screen upon entering a battle. Possible regression from 1.51. Attached is a video showing the issue, as well as the expected behavior (from version 1.51). Video/emulator settings are the same for both versions.

Expected behavior: Battle proceeds as normal instead of black screen.

Version: Latest commit from main branch (6cfc22a), reports as version 2.0.12 in the emulator itself.

Platform: Windows 11 64 bit (compiled using msys2 mingw32).

Thanks for reporting. I'll try to find the offending commit with git bisect, unless you beat me to it.

After further testing, the issue still seems to be present in the earliest commit that compiles on windows, e977a8e (on a side note, even that version still requires a small change in win/safelib.c to compile for me, not sure why), which reports as version 2.0.9 in the emulator. Not sure how to narrow it down further in that case.
