🚀 Anatol-X Alpha 2.1 - The Privacy & Speed Update

We are rolling out a focused, high-impact update with Anatol-X Alpha 2.1. While Alpha 2 laid the massive structural foundation of our OS, this iteration introduces our new default web experience.

✨ What's New?

  • Helium Browser Integration: We have officially replaced generic browsers with Helium Browser (helium-bin) as the default out-of-the-box web browser.
  • Why Helium? Built on a de-Googled Chromium core, Helium perfectly matches the Anatol-X philosophy. It strips out all telemetry, blocks ads and trackers natively via an integrated uBlock Origin, and requires significantly less RAM.
  • Seamless Installation: The browser and its official repository keys are now deeply integrated into our live-build pipeline, ensuring you receive secure and automatic updates directly from the maintainers.

As always, verify your SHA1 or MD5 checksum and use Ventoy or BalenaEtcher for the best installation experience.

🚀 Anatol-X Alpha 2 Release Notes

We are excited to announce the release of Anatol-X Alpha 2! This update brings massive structural improvements, complete visual branding, and resolves critical issues found in our initial Alpha 1 release.

Here is the detailed changelog for Alpha 2:

✨ New Features & Enhancements

  • Custom Welcome Application: We introduced a brand new, Python-based Welcome App that greets users on their first boot, explaining the Anatol-X philosophy and providing a warm introduction to the system.

  • Dynamic Desktop Selector (Netinstall): The Calamares installer has been heavily upgraded. Users can now dynamically select their preferred Desktop Environment (KDE Plasma, GNOME, or XFCE) directly during the installation process.

  • Complete Visual Overhaul (Cyber-Neon Theme):

  • Applied our signature Cyan & Red neon aesthetic across the system.

  • Calamares Installer: Fully customized with a dark neon CSS stylesheet, custom window icons, and new sidebar branding.

  • Wallpapers: Added the "Cyber-Geo" wallpaper for the SDDM login screen and the "Tux Radar" wallpaper as the default background for KDE Plasma.

  • GRUB Bootloader: The boring default bootloader is gone; replaced with our custom Cyan/Black Anatol-X GRUB theme.

  • CI/CD Pipeline Architecture Upgrades:

  • Implemented jlumbroso/free-disk-space to prevent "No space left on device" errors during GitHub Actions builds.

  • Added automated rsync deployment over SSH to securely transfer 2GB+ ISO files directly to SourceForge, bypassing GitHub Release size limits.

  • Added the missing auto/build and auto/clean wrapper scripts to ensure live-build strictly follows our custom configurations.

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • [Critical] Missing Calamares Installer: Fixed a major issue from Alpha 1 where the installation framework was missing from the live image. The calamares and os-prober packages are now properly injected, allowing you to actually install Anatol-X to your disk!
  • [Minor] System Identification (OS Branding): Fixed a bug where the "About this system" settings page incorrectly identified the OS as "Debian". We added a chroot hook to automatically patch /etc/os-release and /etc/lsb-release to proudly display Anatol-X Linux.
  • [Build] Keyring Verification Error: Resolved the Cannot check Release signature error during the cross-build process on GitHub Actions by explicitly installing the debian-archive-keyring package in our workflow.

Known Issues.

🔴 Critical Issue!!!

We forgot to include the Calamares installer in the ISO file. You will either need to install it manually or you'll have to wait for the next version.

🟢 Minor Issue!

In the settings, on the "About this system" page, it says Debian instead of Anatol-X. This shouldn't affect you. We are trying to understand the cause of the error. We'll fix this in the next version.
