Writing Documentation

The documentation is built with Astro Starlight, a powerful documentation framework. All documentation files are located in starlight-docs/src/content/docs/.

Quick Start for Doc Writers

  1. Navigate to the docs directory:

    cd starlight-docs/src/content/docs/
  2. Create or edit markdown files:

    • Files are organized by section (get-started, instrument, observe, etc.)
    • Use .md or .mdx format
    • Frontmatter is required for each page
  3. Basic page structure:

    ---
    title: Your Page Title
description: A brief description of the page content
    ---

    # Your Page Title

    Your content here...

Starlight Features

Starlight provides powerful features for documentation:

  • Automatic sidebar generation: Organized by folder structure
  • Search: Built-in search powered by Pagefind
  • Dark/Light mode: Automatic theme switching
  • Code syntax highlighting: With copy buttons
  • Callouts/Admonitions: For tips, warnings, and notes
  • Tabs: For multi-language examples
  • Link cards: For featured links
  • File tree: For showing directory structures
