CRAFT-4505 I tried a fresh approach on this one — instead of writing it myself, I acted as a sloperator, asking Copilot (specifically Claude Haiku 4.5) to write this slopumentation, referencing the other service reference docs and the current open PRs for service reference docs. I also had it reference the Snapcraft documentation to determine what additional references would be useful to an application author. This commit contains the initial document from Claude.

I've kept the commit history as I either did things manually or asked Claude to do them, and I have read through the full final version to verify its technical correctness.
