Project Description

  • GEOG0037 (30 units) Undergraduate Dissertation under UCL Geography.
  • Utilizing SEUWS through UMEP to generate UHI at the UBL for Greater Kuala Lumpur.

Research Question and Aims

  • How does local-scale urban morphology affect the temporal intensity of urban heat islands in the tropical climate of Greater Kuala Lumpur?
    • Land cover fractions: normal = through LCZ or NOAH, control = full forest
    • Independent variable: GKL land cover over time
    • Dependent variable: near surface temperature (2m)
  • What are the spatial variations of UHI Intensity?
    • Which parts of GKL exhibit largest UHI Intensity? Does this pattern hold over time?
    • Which LCZ zones exhibit the greatest UHI intensity?
  • What are the diurnal and intra-annual patterns of UHI Intensity?
    • What time of day is UHII the highest? Hours of UHI Intensity above x degrees Celsius? Seasonal variations?
