Audio Transcription with AssemblyAI (Python)

This project demonstrates how to:

  1. Upload an audio file to AssemblyAI
  2. Transcribe it into text
  3. (Optional) Generate a quick summary of the transcription

The script uses the AssemblyAI API with Python’s requests library.

Features

  • Upload local .mp3 or .wav audio files
  • Poll until the transcription is complete
  • Print the full transcript
  • Display a quick bullet-point summary

Project Files

  • main.py → Python script to run the transcription and summary
  • meeting.mp3 → Example audio file (replace with your own)
  • README.md → This documentation

Requirements Make sure you have Python installed.

Install dependencies:

pip install requests

Setup

  1. Sign up for a free AssemblyAI account.

  2. Copy your API key from your AssemblyAI dashboard.

  3. Open main.py and replace:

    API_KEY = "your_API_KEY"

    with your actual key.

Usage

  1. Place your audio file (e.g., meeting.mp3) in the project folder.

  2. Run the script:

    python main.py
  3. Wait for the transcription to finish — you’ll see:

    TRANSCRIPT:
    <Full transcription here>

    SUMMARY:
    - First sentence
    - Second sentence
    ...

Notes

  • Large audio files may take longer to upload and process.
  • AssemblyAI offers many more features (summarization, sentiment analysis, topic detection) — check their API docs.
