This adds markdown customization support, this helps to make it easy to switch between mdx and md compatible formats so documents render well in a variety of context such as gh and other markdown areas. This is tricky to do while making the mdx look good so it uses the external edits methods to allow for further customization such as replacing jsx/html nodes with list item
