Reddit Sentiment Analysis on Israel-Palestine War After Trump’s Inauguration
This project analyzes Reddit user opinions and sentiment on the Israel-Palestine war, focusing on the period after Donald Trump took office (January 20, 2025). Using a dataset of daily Reddit comments, I classified user stances (Palestine, Israel, Neutral) and performed sentiment analysis with custom keyword dictionaries and machine learning models.
Key Findings:

Highly Polarized Community: Most Reddit users take a clear side, with nearly equal numbers supporting Palestine and Israel. Only a small minority remain neutral.

Overwhelmingly Negative Tone: Negative sentiment dominates both user opinions and comments for all sides. Positive perspectives are extremely rare, and neutral sentiment is mainly found among users not taking a side.

Consistent Engagement Patterns: User activity and comment volume are much higher among those taking sides, with spikes corresponding to major events. Neutral participation remains low and steady.

No Positive Shift Post-Inauguration: Despite expectations that a new U.S. president might change the tone or outlook, the data shows no sign of improvement or optimism. The conversation remains deeply divided and negative throughout the analyzed period.
Conclusion: Reddit discussions about the Israel-Palestine conflict remain tense, polarized, and overwhelmingly negative, with no evidence of positive change or reduced polarization after the change in U.S. leadership.
