Overview
Implementing visual age-rating badges (similar to ESRB or PEGI) would greatly enhance Appteka's user experience by providing clear, at-a-glance content suitability information. These badges must use copyright-free / open-source icons to avoid legal issues.
Proposed Solution
1. Submission Form Addition
Introduce a mandatory "Age Rating" dropdown field on the app upload screen. Developers must select the appropriate category for their application before submission.
2. Moderation & Compliance
To maintain platform integrity, moderators will review each app to ensure its description, screenshots, and actual content align with the declared age rating.
- Mismatch: Apps found with inconsistent ratings will be flagged and blocked by moderators until corrected.
3. Proposed Age Classifications (Subject to Refinement)
While the following categories serve as a preliminary baseline, we should aim for even more granular filtering in the future:
- General Audience (All Ages)
- Ages 10 and Up
- Ages 13 – 16
- Ages 18 and Up (Adults Only)
4. Visual Implementation
The goal is to display a clear, recognizable "sticker" or badge on app cards and detail pages, visually communicating the suggested age range to users immediately.
Important Considerations & Caveats
Online Interactions: Please note that even apps rated for "General Audience" may feature online components (e.g., chat rooms, user-generated content, or multiplayer modes) where parental discretion is strongly advised. We should consider adding a secondary "Online Interactions" warning badge in the future to complement the age rating.
